Tottenham Rehearsal Rooms
Rehearsal Rooms is a country-wide youth programme launched by UK Music. It gives young people the opportunity to learn how to play in bands and ensembles, improve their instrument skills and take part in recording sessions and live performances.
New River Studios is home to the Tottenham Rehearsal Rooms which runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4pm to 8pm. It is open to Haringey residents up to the age of 25. Our first term has seen five bands take advantage of the programme, culminating in a very successful performance at New River Studios.
The project has been made possible by our partners:
Beggars Group comprises some of the UK’s most successful record labels, and it was through their capital grant that the project initially took off. Haringey Council and Homes for Haringey have provided the funding to run the programme for its first two years. Community Music has provided infrastructure, guidance and support.
Tottenham Music Space
From January 2016, we will be running a new programme called Tottenham Music Space. This will take place every Saturday, from 11am to 3pm, and will allow young people from 11 to 18 access to instrument tuition, rehearsal time, music mentoring, production facilities and performance opportunities.
New River Studios is an Arts’ Award centre, which means that our staff can work with teachers, youth workers or anyone else who wants to run a project for young people, to create a programme of work than can be accredited as part of the Arts’ Award scheme. We can offer support is most areas of the arts, including music, film and video, theatre, dance, fine art and new media. Projects need not be run from New River Studios, but our facilities will be made available at a concessionary rate and we will support and assist in any funding applications.
