Integrating years of experience as a sound designer, performer, producer and artist Celyn Of Gwent‘s latest performance work pools together electronica, underground club culture, queer performance art, spoken word poetry, field recordings, and the traditional music of the British Isles.
Perpetually disintegrating boundaries with each new project, their new album Dying and Rising explores the collective feeling of civilisation teetering on a knife’s edge with everything to gain or lose, as we are rocked by social uncertainty, economic instability and looming climate change.
A nexus between things old and new, Celyn of Gwent is a queer bard for the anthropocene.
“A deep-rooted connection to Welsh heritage through their powerful and evocative music.” – Buzz Mag
“A unique talent in multiple art forms.” – Dom Ansell (Roundhouse)
Celyn of Gwent’s music and sound design has been presented with organisations including The Royal Ballet, Wales Millenium Centre, The National Theatre of Great Britain, S4C (Hansh), Roundhouse, Stereo (Glasgow), SPILL, Corsica Studios, IKLECTIK, The Yard, The Cube, Dalston Superstore, and Rough Trade. Celyn’s past work has been supported by Tŷ Cerdd, Arts Council of Wales, Help Musicians, UK New Artists, Create and Arts Council England. They are a former Roundhouse Resident Artist.
Kunal Singhal has been exploring the chaos of improvised loop harmonies since a lot of studio time alone during the lockdowns, followed by months at SKRONK free improv sessions. Never tied to one genre, he has performed on line-ups alongside electronic, prog, ambient, doom, math rock, and shoegaze musicians, including Agathe Max, UKAEA, Maes Y Circles, Evil Blizzard, Haress, Teiger, thisquietarmy, with previous appearances at events including Cardiff Psych & Noise Fest, Whirl-y-Fayre, London Prog Gigs, and Digital Design Weekend (assisting Lia Mice in demonstrating the Chaos Bells).
“A unique, immersive experience” – Echoes And Dust
“Music for the troubled mind” – The Progressive Aspect
“Very impressive” – My Global Mind
Curate’s Egg is the creative output of Alice Hoffmann-Fuller, a sonic landscape constructed from lost and found sounds, lo-fi home-recorded acoustic instruments and voice, audio ephemera and field recordings, salvaged, collected or created, with some rehashed repeatedly to achieve degradation, over 20yrs.
Some sounds found in the gaps between the cooker and fridge have stagnated, untouched for decades, gathering gloop and dust, only to emerge from the primordial gunk, mutated and highly poisonous.
Some sounds are modern, open-source, or poundshop-bought quality, juxtaposed jarringly, with no thought for the listener.
Some synth sounds originated by abusing win98 text-to-voice synthesiser, forced to voice only repeated consonants.
All physical copies of her latest album All at Sea / Land Ahoy! recently sold out, but you can still name your price to download it from Bandcamp.
Druba is an improvisational exploration of sound and space between the creative electronics of Bartholomew and shakuhachi flute from Laonikos Psimikakis Chalkokondylis. The shakuhachi is an end-blown bamboo flute, traditionally used by Zen Buddhist monks as a tool for meditation rather than performance, which Laonikos uses to draw on on traditional pieces (hi fu mi cho, hon shirabe) and techniques to interplay with the unique electronic instruments that Bartholomew designs and programmes for each new project.
Longtime collaborators, they have several varied projects under their collective belt, including a 5-hour improvisation at Helsinki Music Centre and their 2016 album umami-music.
Odd Lust‘s gorgeous debut EP Wild Qualia was released on The Trilogy Tapes, with subsequent releases appearing on 3024 and Accidental Meetings.
As a DJ, London-based producer and live performer Odd Lust (aka Alex Wallwork) has spent over a decade navigating the liminal spaces between electronic music’s many subcultures through club sets, radio and nights like Bad Dimension, Power Outrage and Lost Valley. His sets join the dots between classic Detroit techno and electro, golden-era IDM, forward-thinking bass music, breakbeat and beyond.
Kylie Monologue is a London-based producer who creates tunes that are equally danceable and introspective, sitting somewhere between 90s IDM and sounds akin to early Human League. Almost immediately after deciding to teach herself Ableton, she released ambient piece Terry + Keith in January 2023.
She’s been relentless ever since, producing increasingly excellent records (huge fan of her most recent album the body keeps the score), and performing live sets on stages alongside artists including Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, Big Lad, Pye Corner Audio, Polypores, and Poly-Math.
“An eternally rotating conveyor-belt of adjunct loops, all cast in that wonderful cloak of ephemeral reverb.” – Means Magazine
“Melodic and adventurous” – The Progressive Aspect
