Crux: surround sound special

May 14 @ 7:30 pm

Come along to our fourth event of the year (and final of our spring run) where we will have performers working their audio through a custom arrangement of 8 speakers to create an immersive sound field. This will take place in the gig room at New River Studios – and so space will be fairly limited.
Metalogue is the alias of musician/programmer Robin Fencott. Metalogue combines elements of IDM, drum and bass, industrial and breakcore with cinematic sound design and electroacoustic music. Releases include Network’s Edge (on Sonic Terror, a collab with end.user), Anomaly (Combat Recordings) and Decentralized Coercion (Distortion Records) – plus many more via labels such as Abstrakt Reflections, Acre, Section 27, Depth.Request, Kathersis and Pokora Sound System. Aside from Metalogue, Robin works in video game audio and co-runs the london club night Towards Collapse.
UKAEA distils trance-dance phenomena from around the globe through a post-apocalyptic filter – using smashed percussion, hard synthesis and bleak declamations to disorientate and elevate.
Agathe Max is a violin and viola player working across contemporary classical, improv, electroacoustic music, noise and pop who effortlessly transcending boundaries.
Stormfield tears apart the ghosts of rave and sends them screaming down a dark tunnel to the future.
Together they will make a right fucking racket.
Jake cut his teeth playing live electronics with the Warp-signed avant-jazz band Red Snapper, as well as creating music and sound design for major TV shows and the occasional well-received techno record. He currently works as a composer, researcher, improviser and educator with particular interest in radical creative applications of digital DJ technology. His current sets combine field recordings, internet audio grabs, Shazam’d music and especially composed DJ tools.
Head of Combat Recordings and audiovisual producer Stormfield brings on his 303-laced electro and low-frequency electronics to Crux, featuring a surround-sound rendition of material from his recent ‘Theia EP’ – a release that has seen support from Igloo Mag, Fold London, Blawan and Rebekah. While sitting between genres, his sound itself is characteristic of its contrasts – glacially calm stringwork underpinning frenetic percussive elements, or pristine beauty with harsh noise attacks.
Visuals from Theia will be improvised and performed by the legendary Nor Hyper VJ.
