#116 in our ongoing open mic improv nights. Come along with your instrument and join in, each small group gets 5 minutes, then the next and so on. If you show up early you’ll get on stage at least twice. Also, we always have a feature act who perform a longer set, this time we have a duo new to SKRONK with A Simple Equation is an audiovisual project by guitarist Rainer Schütz (Berlin) and visual artist Maike Zimmermann (London/Berlin).
A Simple Equation is an audiovisual project by guitarist Rainer Schütz (Berlin) and visual artist Maike Zimmermann (London/Berlin). It presents a unique sound combination of electrical guitar/bass and the hybrid autoharp. Raw noise and filigree, deep sound textures evolve into an improvised sonic dynamic by which the autoharp builds looped structures and the guitar/bass weaves a dramatic thread through it. At times the sound exudes distorted screeching, at times deep drones and fragile harmonics.
The haunting music simultaneously forms the basis for video projections, addressing themes of urban space and memory.
Bios:
Maike Zimmermann is a visual artist based in London and Berlin. Her artistic practice explores the intersection between moving image, sound, photography and concepts of narration primarily within the activities of live cinema, expanded cinema, video art and site specific works.
Maike has received numerous awards, including Grants for the Arts and the Artist International Development Fund from the Arts Council England, DAAD Promos Travel bursary, the micro
bursary from the Bremer Filmbüro and scholarships from the Berlin Senat and Stiftung Kunstfonds. She has participated in international exhibitions and residency programs including in Berlin, London and New York. She holds an MA in Photographic Studies (University of

rainer noisseville is a Berlin based guitarist and improviser, experienced in noise experimental and improvised music, active in the Berlin Echtzeitmusik scene. rainer is autodidact on the guitar with a great versatility and wide range of sounds and forms of musical expression, fragile, dense, disturbing, enchanting, always impressively intense. rainer noisseville has been active in the free-
